Abduction Hoax

 The reported abduction from yesterday afternoon has been confirmed to be a hoax.

On Thursday,  December 6th,  at approximately 2:00 pm, three York University students turned themselves in to York Security Services and admitted to being the individuals responsible.

York University takes the safety of its students, staff, and faculty very seriously.  We will not tolerate the irresponsible actions of a few that unnecessarily escalate safety concerns on campus.

Please be advised that all exams are proceeding in accordance with the published schedule.

The University understands that there are heightened community concerns.  We want to assure community members, that the measures outlined this morning will continue in effect during the exam period.  Specifically, the University has:

1.            Increased security staffing patrols, focusing on evening examination hours;

2.            Confirmed additional Toronto Police Service officers are on campus;

3.            Met with Toronto Police 31 division to review campus safety strategies; and

4.            Scheduled an Open Forum for Parents on Campus Safety
