Reported Armed Robbery – The Pond Road

York Security Services (YSS) received a report from a York student about an armed robbery that occurred on Pond Road opposite the Technology Enhanced Learning Building on the Keele campus. On Saturday 20 February 2016 at approximately 8:30pm, the student reported being approached by a suspect who asked to use his cellphone. The student did so and when the suspect began to walk away with the cellphone, the student attempted to intervene at which time the suspect brandished a knife. The suspect ran south through the parking lot. No injuries were reported. York Security has initiated enhanced patrols of the area.
Suspect is described as: Male, 6′ tall, skinny build, wearing a black rain coat and baseball cap.
Toronto Police Service (TPS) were notified and are investigating.

Security Bulletin Protocol Overview
Security Bulletins are issued with regard to incidents that occur on York University property when:
• a serious incident has occurred and there is a risk of recurrence; and/or
• there is a pattern of recurring, but less serious incidents (such as thefts or robberies); and/or
• a Security or Police investigation will be assisted by bringing forward witnesses and information.
When an incident represents an immediate threat to the physical safety of persons at the University, there would be an immediate communication to all or to the effected parts of the University following the protocols outlined in York’s Emergency Plan and related procedures, employing the push notification on the Mobile Safety App, the LCD screens, and the emergency PA system.
