SECURITY BULLETIN: Updated information on reports of sexual assaults

TORONTO – Two additional female members of the York community have reported sexual assault incidents on Thurs. July 5, 2012, similar to earlier reports.

York University posted a Security Bulletin on Thursday following reports from two female York community members of sexual assaults near Vari Hall and the Colonnade, both involving unwanted touching.

On Friday, two more female members of the York community reported they also had been sexually assaulted on Thursday afternoon. One of the reported incidents occurred on the second floor of Accolade West, near Vari Hall. The other occurred near the north exit of Vari Hall.

In each case, a male suspect approached the women and attempted to speak to them before touching them.

York Security Services has stepped up both foot patrols and car patrols in the area.

York Security is assisting Toronto Police Service (TPS) in the investigation of the incidents, which occurred between approximately 2:55pm and 3:45pm on Thursday.

The suspect in all incidents is described as:

  • Male, black, 21-23 years old, 6’3” in height, with a skinny build, scruffy beard, wearing a white baseball cap, green shirt, and baggy jeans.

A second suspect was involved in one of the incidents and is described as:

  • Male, black, 21 to 23 years old, 5’8”, heavyset, wearing a black baseball cap, green shirt and jeans.

The reported incidents occurred at the following locations and times on Thursday:

– 2:55pm, near the north exit of Vari Hall
– 3pm, on the second floor of Accolade West, close to Vari Hall.
– 3:40pm, in the Common area, heading toward Vari Hall (two suspects).
– 3:43pm, exiting the Colonnade.
